5 Ways To Work Out While Practicing Social Distancing

Personal Development

Many of us are now working from home and practicing social distancing in the midst of the pandemic COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus. Getting a hit of endorphins during this time of the unknown is not only helpful for our physical health but also our mental, spiritual, and emotional health and well-being. Even the best of introverts love a good sweat session! While lifting weights at the gym or attending our favorite cycle or yoga class may not be an option for us currently, there are plenty of ways we can exercise while we mindfully practice social distancing.

1. Get outside.

Now is the perfect time to get outside for a run, walk, or hike—as long as you do so while still practicing social distancing. Download a new playlist, podcast, or audiobook from the library and get some fresh air.

2. Dust Off Your Home Equipment.

Dust off some of your unused workout equipment, whether that be hand weights, rollerblades, bikes, kettlebells, skateboards, or jump ropes, and have a little fun. Make good use of the opportunity to use these items you’ve been neglecting for your indoor cycling or HIIT class.

3. Turn To Social Media.

Look out for workouts posted by your favorite studio, instructor, or health influencer. Many studios are closing or limiting classes and attendees. Instructors are starting to offer guided workouts or online private sessions.

4. Stream Content.

Stream group-type classes you are not able to attend in-person. My local yoga studio is streaming live classes for free. Access content from your favorite studio or on YouTube, where you can find a plethora of free content. Consider a restorative or yin flow yoga class during this stressful time to allow your body time to rest and recover.

5. Get ClassPass.

Classpass is currently offering digital, at-home workouts for their members. This includes audio and video workouts focusing on cardio, strength, mind, and body. The service is also offering their members the ability to roll-over class credits until June 1, 2020.

Don’t forget to breathe. And smile.
